Music Monday: The Non

Wil Norton, Tom Bishop, Mack Hawkins and Zach Zeller make up the band named The Non. The Non is an experimental, ambient rock band with no boundaries and a lot of talent. The band has released two albums: their first album Paper City, and a second named Tadaima, after a Japanese saying meaning “I’m home”. The band hails from Edmond, Oklahoma (which is where I am from!). The Non differs from many bands in that it leaves lyrics completely out of its music. Band members use only instruments, allowing listeners to create their own interpretations about what the song means. The Non has been delivering high-energy, dynamic performances to fans for nearly four years.
The Non is such a great band, I remember getting so excited when I would get to go see them when I lived back in OKC. The boys have such a peace in there music, it can be so loud and build for so long – but you find yourself in such a happy place, not big movements.. just a slow rock back and forth! I really REALLY hope that they play a show when I visit home this summer. Make sure to check out there new cd Tadaima – you can buy it on there myspace. The Non is also playing at SXSW this year.. so if you make it out (lucky!) then make sure that you see them. There is so much I could say to try to explain the Non’s music.. but I think it is best this time that you just take a listen. The videos below are from when I went home 2 Christmas’ ago and I was lucky enough to catch a great house show!
